Cable Lifters

Cable Lifters

Dry wood is one of the best electrical insulators, behind diamond and air. All of the parts for these cable lifters came from Hobby Lobby: 2" x 3" wood bases, dowel rods, thread spools, and wood glue. Sandpaper and paint are optional. Glue the dowel rods to the bases, with a nice amount of glue forming a ring or collar around the rod at the base. Let dry. Lay the spools on a table, flat end down, spaced evenly apart. Squirt some wood glue on the tops of the spools, in a line. Lay a dowel rod on top of the glue. Let dry.

The bases will hang down, perfectly aligning the bases with the spools. If you do more than one at a time, you can lay a book on top of the rods to hold everything in place until the glue is dry.

These work great and cost about $18 for half dozen lifters. They have been in use for more than 2 years and none have broken.
